Trivia contest at the airport. On the Aspen approach, KASE,
there's an approach LOC/DME-E. Never seen or heard of a
DME-E...and can't find anything in the Terminal Procedures
book.
Help!

The "-E" indicates that the approach is a circling approach to the runway and
has been revised at least five? times (A,B,C,D,E).

Needs "E"verything to perform the approach?
Needs better than VFR minimums? The miss follows a back course localizer, from a mountain?
The "E" means the localizer is not lined up with the runway, offset to one side or the other?

DING.
It's the fifth circling approach the the field. Oddly enough there are
really only two still alive, the LOC/DME-E and the VOR/DME-C.
This airport is extremely dicey, even VFR. Read the remarks in the
airport directory:
- TERRAIN WILL NOT ALLOW FOR NORMAL TFC PATTERNS. HIGH RATES OF DESCENT
MAY BE RQRD DUE TO TERRAIN & LOCAL PROCS.
